Ballet Igor Moiseyev, the first professional ensemble of folk dances in the world, presented its legendary program “Games of the World” in Belgrade, during two exclusive evenings — November 8 and 9. Ever since 1937, when it was founded by the great choreographer Igor Moiseyev, this ensemble has changed the world of dance — combining the technique of classical ballet with the spirit of folklore.
Moiseyev created a new genre: energetic, emotional, full of life — “a plastic portrait of the people,” as he himself called it.
With the standing ovations of the audience already after the first number, the famous folklore-ballet ensemble delighted everyone present in the packed Sava Center.
Ballet artist Denis Alexandrovich Pankov said that the ensemble paid special attention to preparations for the performance in Serbia, because they had not performed here for 11 years.
Both concerts began with the Russian dance “Summer”, followed by the witty Belarusian dance “Jurochka”, the city quadrille from the “Images of the Past” series, the suite of Greek dances “Sirtaki”, and the “Serbian dance” inspired by the Serbian circle, which was followed by the Venezuelan dance “Horopo” and the picturesque dance of Argentine shepherds “Gaucho”, caused special enthusiasm. At the end of each point, the audience rewarded the artists with loud applause.

The State Academic Ensemble of Folk Dances named after Igor Moiseyev, known throughout the world as the “Igor Moiseyev Ballet”, has existed since 1937.
Its founder, the great choreographer of the 20th century, Igor Moiseyev, first a dancer and pedagogue at the Bolshoi Theater, created that exceptional folklore ensemble, which will bear his name, and for which he created many large and significant programs. Igor Moisejev called the genre of stage folk dance a plastic portrait of the people, silent poetry and visible song, a choreographic chronicle of the nation.
Igor Moiseyev’s ballet is the first professional ensemble of folk dances in the world.
This ensemble was a cultural bridge between the then USSR/Russia and all continents of the world. Toured in more than 70 countries, including USA, France, Italy, with 10 to 15 tours in some of these countries. This ensemble is like a true cultural diplomat: it speaks an international language that every inhabitant of the planet understands – the language of play.
