The famous Sananda Maitreya (formerly known as Terence Trent d’Arby) held a concert on June 26 in Belgrade in the “Jevremovac” Botanical Garden as one of a series of Garden Sessions concerts organized by the Center of Belgrade Festivals (CEBEF).
Sananda started his rich career in 1987, when his debut album “Introducing the Hardline” brought him worldwide success. He won the Grammy Award in 1988 as the best male vocal artist of the r’n’b genre, while in June 1988 he appeared on the cover of “Rolling Stone” magazine and was nominated for the Brit Award in the “Best International New Artist” category.
He gained fame with timeless hits such as: “Sign your name”, “Rain”, “Wishing well”, “Delicate” with singer Des’ree, “Holding on to you”, “Dance little sister”, “If you let me stay”, etc.
After 1987, he released three studio albums: “Neither Fish nor Flesh” in 1989, “Symphony or Damn” in 1993 and “Vibrator” in 1995. On these albums there are many famous songs, among them music from legendary Hollywood films, such as “Beverly Hills Cop 3”, “High Fashion”, “The Promised Land” (Bastarden), “Fanatic”, “Shake, Rattle & Roll”, “Frankie and Johnny”…
At the age of 33, he took the name of Sananda Maitreya, and in 2001 it became his official name
His fifth album, “WildCard!”, marked his new beginning as an independent artist.
After this, several albums followed, and on most of his albums Maitreya plays all the instruments. The latest double album “Pandora’s PlayHouse” was released on March 15, 2021.
A Dolby Atmos remastered digital edition of his cult album “Introducing The Hardline” was released on July 8, 2022.
During the concert, the hits “It Ain’t Been Easy”, “Duchess”, “The Birthday Song”, “Mr Magoo”, “Delicate” followed, as well as new songs… The visitors danced and listened to the musician to the beat of country, classics, jazz, blues, pop and rock.
The end of the concert was marked by thunderous applause with standing ovations.
