The World Sambo Championship Novi Sad 2020. was opened for juniors and seniors, which lasts until Sunday, November 8th, with a solemn ceremony held in the Great Hall of the sports center ,,SPC Vojvodina”. On that occasion, the President of the European Sambo Federation Sergej Jelisijev and the Deputy Mayor of Novi Sad Milan Đurić addressed the audience, expressing satisfaction that Novi Sad is the host of a large and important sports event.
Novi Sad was given the opportunity to host athletes from all over the world and to promote sambo in the best way, as a sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee. Novi Sad got this opportunity also thanks to the fact that it meets all the conditions for holding large sports competitions, but also thanks to the seriousness and quality of work of the Sambo Federation of Serbia. The organization of the World Sambo Championship, at a time when we are facing challenges caused by the corona virus, is a kind of feat.
The championship is attended by 600 competitors, coaches and officials from Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Greece, Moldova, Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine, France, Romania, Spain, Northern Macedonia, Israel, Belgium, Cyprus, United States, Colombia, Mexico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, South Africa, Morocco, Cameroon, Indonesia, Philippines, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Poland, Czech Republic, Kyrgyzstan and Serbia. The national team of Serbia will represent 37 competitors. The championship is held in strict quarantine conditions, without the presence of the audience.
